M. Peter Thomas
Peter Thomas is a high tech business leader, with over 30 years of experience building technology companies, primarily as CEO. He recently retired from Superconductor Technologies Inc. (STI), a NASDAQ listed public company, where as President, Chief Executive Officer, and a Board member for eight years, he was responsible for directing STI’s operations and building the company into a leader in the use of superconducting technology to create high performance wireless infrastructure products designed to enhance the connection between a cellular device and the provider’s base station.
After joining STI in April 1997, Mr. Thomas was the driving force behind the company’s transition from an R&D firm to a commercial manufacturer of wireless subsystem products. During his tenure, STI grew over 400 percent, expanded its product lines to include both uplink and downlink solutions, and captured nearly all of the worldwide market for wireless superconducting products. During this period, he acquired a competitor company and raised over $200 million in new equity capital for STI.
Among his senior management assignments prior to STI, Mr. Thomas served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Ericsson North America, Inc., the operating subsidiary of Sweden's L.M. Ericsson. The North American operation included divisions providing cellular infrastructure systems, central office switching systems, loop transmission systems, PABXs, and copper and fiber optic cable products. Previous to this assignment, Mr. Thomas was President of Telenova, Inc. a start-up voice and data PABX manufacturer which he sold to Wang Labratories, and President of ITT Telecom Network Systems, a network telecommunications business. In addition to this broad experience, he has also served as general manager of four Nortel Networks divisions, including its DMS 10 Switching Division, Nortel’s first entry into digital switching in the United States.
Mr. Thomas received his B.S.E. in aerospace engineering from Princeton University and his M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School.
